PIANO GROUP CLASS - FAQ
What piano method do you use?
We use the Mayron Cole Piano Method.
What is the Mayron Cole Piano Method?
The Mayron Cole Piano Method is one of the nation's best-known group piano programs. It teaches children to read music from the very beginning while developing rhythm, note reading, keyboard skills, and confidence in a fun group setting. The curriculum includes separate beginner materials for 5 & 6-year-olds and 7 & 8-year-olds.
Why group piano instead of private lessons?
Children often learn exceptionally well alongside their peers. Group classes encourage listening, teamwork, confidence, and musical games while still allowing each child to progress individually.
Will my child receive individual attention?
Yes! Although students learn together, each child has their own keyboard, and individual guidance is provided throughout every lesson.
What will my child learn?
Students will:
Identify the piano keys
Read beginning music notation
Count and play simple rhythms
Develop proper hand position and finger numbers
Play with both hands (ages 7 & 8)
Build listening and concentration skills
Perform fun songs with confidence
Does my child need a piano at home?
Yes. Regular home practice is essential. A full-size keyboard with touch-sensitive keys or an acoustic piano is recommended.
How much should my child practice?
About 10–15 minutes a day, 5–6 days each week, is ideal for this age.
What if my child has never played before?
Perfect! These classes are specifically designed for complete beginners.
How many students are in a class?
Small class sizes of 5 or 6 students allow every student to receive personal instruction while enjoying the fun of learning with friends.
Will there be performances?
Yes! Students will have opportunities to perform for family during the year. A “Show Off” will be held in December and a recital in May help build confidence and celebrate each child's progress.
What if my child misses a class?
Please let the teacher know as soon as possible. Parents will receive the assignment so students can stay on track with home practice.
What should my child bring?
Students should bring:
Their piano book/binder
A pencil
Their assignment folder (if provided)
A positive attitude and willingness to learn!
How do I help my child succeed?
Parents can support success by:
Establishing a consistent practice routine.
Encouraging effort rather than perfection.
Celebrating small accomplishments.
Attending performances and celebrating their child's progress.
Are these classes fun?
Absolutely! Young children learn best through engaging activities, games, movement, ensemble playing, and positive encouragement. Our goal is to help every child build a lifelong love of music while developing a strong musical foundation.
